Gender Perspectives of Vulnerability to Climate Change: A Descriptive Evidence from Farming Households at Ikpayongo Community in Gwer Lga, Benue State, Nigeria

Climate change impact and risks on agricultural livelihood affect women men disproportionately often to the disadvantage of girls. Consequently, this study assessed gender perspectives vulnerability climate farming households at Ikpayongo community in Gwer local government area, Benue State, Nigeria using descriptive approach. The identified a total 120 male-headed female-headed across four neighbourhoods administered structured questionnaire them simple random sampling method, while data analysis was done statistics. results indicate lower education income status among households, though have high household size. Both sexes relatively equal access land for farming, however large farm size compared women. major crops cultivated by were rice yam, largely groundnut cassava. Women are more exposed sensitive climate-related hazards such as floods heat stress due location their farms. result further shows that males possess better adaptive capacity given higher incomes, social networks training/capacity building programmes credit facilities. concludes vulnerable variability than exposure capacity. Programme policies improve facilities relevant training boost build resilience highly recommended. This would also limit with attendant reduction vulnerability.
